[Pidge is pretty effectively curled against his side like a koala. She had an arm over his chest that slid down toward his waist as Lance sat up, and the movement rouses her ever so slightly. Mainly because there's movement where there hadn't been any before, but movement and shifting weight on the mattress can also mean Hunk getting up to make breakfast. Which is what she assumes is happening. So she just shifts slightly with a soft, plaintive whimper, tucking herself more against Lance's hip, ready to go back to sleep.
And then she hears a voice that is decidedly not Hunk's. And her eyes snap open.]
L-Lance...?
[She's immediately sitting up properly, moving so fast she could've smacked right into the underside of Lance's chin. But then she's up, and very awake, and her eyes are huge as she looks at him. Lance is up. Lance is up and he's looking right at her and if that isn't a sight for sore eyes she's not sure what is.]
Lance!! [And she promptly launches herself at him, throwing her arms around his neck and not caring if that sends them back down against the mattress. Hunk has clearly already woken up and gone to do his morning things, which is a real shame because Lance is awake.]
Oh thank quiznak, I was really starting to freak out!
[It's a sheer miracle she doesn't knock her noggin right into that pointy chin of his because Lance is not prepared for the force of this little peanut flying towards him. After all, Lance is the guy who thought no one would be waiting by his side if he too went into a sleep coma. He wasn't Keith and he wasn't Shiro. But he's clearly wrong if Pidge is hanging onto his neck and as he glances around the room, there's proof that Hunk was here at one point as well.
Things have changed and not all of them for the worse. That's a relief.]
H-hey. Sorry 'bout that. Slept through my alarm.
[Though what he's saying is clearly a joke from the smirk on his face, it doesn't quite reflect in his voice the way it usually would. There's a tinge of sadness, maybe a little regret, possibly disappointment. He's not sad to see Pidge, not at all, but he is beginning to realize he's not at home anymore, not back on the Earth he's used to, and again, without his family.
[Pidge just scoffs at the attempt at humor. Mainly because rude, how dare he try to get away with this shit with a clearly half-assed joke. But also partly because she's still a bit shaken up by the intensity of her own emotions over the whole situation. She'd been so damn worried, despite what everyone else kept saying, even while trying to reassure Hunk that everything would be fine. Deep down she truly had been paranoid that Lance would never wake up, and then what were they supposed to do? It wouldn't have seemed right somehow.
Her hold on him tightens ever so slightly, despite his protest at her squeezing him too hard, and she just shakes her head against him.]
Asshole. [You scared us. She doesn't manage to say the words out loud, but the feeling is there.
Eventually she does pull back, just enough to be able to search his face and really look at him. And there is... definitely something different. She can't quite pin it.] How're you feeling? You okay?
[Well, rude is his default setting so Pidge should be used to it by now. But she's not the only one shaken up here. Lance never thought the coma would hit him, fully expecting to be far behind the rest of the team forever, to hear the stories of how much more useful he becomes to Voltron. Experiencing it, however, was worse. So much worse.]
I finally wake up and you're already insulting me? And here I thought you'd be happy I brought Lance Jr. home before he started straying.
[Jokes. Jokes help shove everything away, making everything seem fine and the rest left unsaid. His only hope is that Pidge is fooled enough by his act for him to get away with it. Or angry enough that Lance is still a pervert at times.
When Pidge is suddenly staring at him, Lance feels more than a bit vulnerable, like if he lets her look too long, it'll reveal things that haven't settled inside him just yet. He shifts his glance to the side, hoping that it seems like he's seeking a rogue water bottle or something.]
[She has to hit him for the Lance Jr comment. She has to. Even though it does also make her cheeks color in embarrassment as she slaps him in the shoulder for it.] You're so gross.
[The way he answers her question worries her a bit, though. Lance isn't usually one to go the quiet route, and the way he averts his gaze has her chewing on the inside of her cheek. This is the part she's not good at. She hopes Hunk comes back to the room soon so they can all talk through whatever's going on. He knows how to be direct without being abrasive the way she tends to be.
But at least Pidge knows to answer his request. Fortunately there are plenty of water bottles in the room, mainly because Pidge and Hunk basically took shifts staying with Lance and that meant having a decent stockpile. She crawls out of the bed to retrieve one, taking that time to put her glasses on as well.]
..You were asleep for two weeks. So a little dehydration does make some sense.
Ow! Stop being so violent! You don't hit those you miss!
[But really, he wouldn't take Pidge any other way right now. Especially with the fact that back home, he wasn't even giving her a second look the way he does now. There, Lance only had eyes for Allura. Here, however, he still cares for her but certainly not in the way he cares for Pidge (and Hunk) nowadays.]
Two weeks? Shit.
[How long was Keith down for? A week, tops, right? He's sure Keith had way more to catch up on that he did, but why did it take Keith less time to do so? Did it really make that much of a difference? Probably not, but still, two weeks here, a year there. Still wasn't enough time spent reconnecting with his family or getting used to the realization that everything he knew (including himself at one point) was now decimated thanks to the Galra.
Also this means two weeks without a shower either and when Pidge's back is turned, he lifts and arm to sneak a sniff of his armpits. Ripe, but not exactly as terrible as Lance expected. He's sure the rest of him isn't quite up to par and he needs a mirror to make sure.]
yes good yes I LIKE IT LIKE THAT
